Spotlights
Our day started with a phone call from our interpreter who needed Noel to rush down to the Consulate. Noel barley had a chance to eat breakfast (and remember this is the most important meal of the day – not only because it’s breakfast but because it is American food and usually the only meal we eat before dinner.) One of the adoption documents was outdated and needed to be completed again on the correct form. While Noel was rushing off to the Consulate the girls were in the hotel restaurant feeding the baby. After we were finished we noticed we did not have a key to get back into the room and we had a stinky diaper. When Noel returned we arrange to go shopping at the electronic market and the Porcelain Factory. We had a group of 7 going so we need 2 taxis. Our translator spoke with the cab driver, told him where to take us, we hopped into the cab and we were off. The driver dropped us off in some foreign area that none of us recognized. We didn’t know what to do since we couldn’t communicate with anyone to make matters worse; Noel noticed the cab drove off with his cell phone and we couldn’t call anyone. After waiting about 15-20 minutes we decided to try and flag another cab to take us to the area we thought the rest of the group was. Bev had a paper with the name of the electronic store written in Chinese so we jumped into the cab and pointed to the paper. We reached our destination after about 30 minutes but we didn’t see our group so we stayed in the cab and had him drive us back to the hotel. After 3 hours of driving and spending 70 RMB we made it back to the hotel safely. Later that night we went on a dinner cruise on the Pearl River. It was beautiful; every building had lights, or tv or just a unique architecture. Sophie did great the entire time – she watched out the window and did some sightseeing. All and all the day ended up pretty good.P.S. Noel lost both cell phones and we don't have a cell phone that can call the US.
